Well, the supercomputer speed records would be yet again be smashed, and this time by a supercomputer created by the Chinese. According to the unofficial figures released by the supercomputer’s makers, their super computer would be 74% faster than the current world record – with a record breaking 30.65 petaflops – and this only utilized a mere 90% of its nodes, with another 10% to spare.
Dubbed as the Tianhe-2, the respective supercomputer utilizes a gigantic cluster of Ivy Bridge and Xeon Phi chips to power its processing might. The respective supercomputer would supercede the current world record holder, the 17.6 petaflop Titan. Of course, although the results are still unofficial, I’m guessing that the Tianhe-2 will definitely be entered into the ranking sometime in June.
