Google surely has fascination in dominating the robotic and virtual worlds, and it looks like they are taking this initiative yet another step higher with the acquisition of Boston Dynamics. Generally, Boston Dynamics is the company that is currently liaised with DARPA, with robotic projects like like WildCat/Cheetah, Atlas, Petman and Big Dog. Of course, Boston Dynamics are still building robots for DARPA, it looks like they too have a little room for Google.
Although the exact sum that Google spent to acquire Boston Dynamics wasn’t disclosed, the company’s founder Marc Raibert is quoted by the Times saying "I am excited by Andy and Google's ability to think very, very big, with the resources to make it happen." Personally, I believe Google’s acquisition has something to do with their driverless technology, which I think would be incorporated with Boston Dynamics’ robotic building technology.
